After 10 years, I’ve decided to distance myself from the username that I’ve had across all of my social media platforms and the name of my podcast, Shingler’s List.
I explained in my last blog post where the name originated for me and it’s obvious links to the movie Schindler’s List. As I’ve progressed in this digital world and grown as a person, I no longer feel comfortable using the name. Holocaust memorial day this year was the kick that l needed to realise that I no longer have to cling onto this online persona that I’ve had for the last decade. I have no guilt about it and it was always about turning a personal negative into a positive, but it’s now time for a change.
Shingler’s List served its purpose. It was a gimmick and it worked. A harmless play on words that made people laugh when they heard it. But we grow older and we move on and sometimes the things we’ve used and said before no longer represent us and the people we are today. Change can be good, change can be bad, but sometimes it’s necessary.
Myself and Kleon will be continuing with the podcast under a new name and throughout 2025 will be bringing fresh ideas to the table. The new show is called “Up The Trent… Without A Paddle!” referencing the river that flows through our home town of Stoke-on-Trent and how the world today, for whatever side of the fence you sit on, can leave you feeling like you’re up sh*t creek without a paddle. We’re looking forward to sinking our teeth into this next adventure.
If you follow my socials then you will have already noticed that my user names have changed and I’ve also made the decision to deactivate my X account. From the late 2000’s to now, X has changed so much and it just isn’t as fun as it used to be. You’ll still see the podcast page over there though.
Moving forward, it’s business as usual just with a new name. Here’s to the next chapter!
